Summary

This paper examines the impact of Fair Trade organic coffee production on farmers' well-being in Nicaragua, finding low-intensity Fair-Trade organic production increases income when compared to low-intensity conventional farming, however low productivity can work to keep farmers in poverty. As intensity increases, the economic advantages become more greatly linked to market prices.
