Summary
This report examines Bonsucro’s outcomes in 2020, focusing on membership growth, certification progress, environmental and social performance, and improvements to internal governance frameworks. The analysis draws on quantitative data from certified sugarcane producers, Chain of Custody certifications, harvest records, and worker statistics, as well as qualitative data from public consultations, webinars, and stakeholder engagement. Research design involved longitudinal tracking of certified operators’ environmental and social indicators and monitoring adoption of new frameworks such as the Code of Conduct and Grievance Mechanism. Results indicate a 13.5% increase in membership, expansion of certifications including first-time certifications in Panama and Asia, measurable environmental benefits such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions and fertiliser use, and enhanced worker outcomes including higher wages and lower accident rates.
