Summary

This paper presents a comparison of animal welfare standards in GLOBALGAP certified and non-certified intensive broiler chicken farms in Paraná, Brazil, with results suggesting that minimum welfare standards are adhered to regardless of certification. The authors suggest that more rigorous standards, rather than those based on an overseas context, would bring greater imrpovements to broiler welfare in Brazil.
