Summary

In this case study, IISD’s State of Sustainability Initiatives team collaborated with Kappahl, a Swedish fashion retailer, to map supply chain actors in Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka producing organic cotton apparel for babies. Through surveys and the use of SupplyShift, they mapped actors and collected sustainability information on previously opaque tiers in the supply chain. The project revealed both opportunities and challenges, allowing Kappahl to better identify and address supply chain risks while fostering communication and trust among supply chain actors. Recommendations include leveraging the newfound information for risk mitigation and enhancing collaboration, despite the challenges of engaging unaccustomed respondents.
