Summary

The study explore indebtedness of smallholer coffee farmes in a Fairtrade certified coffee coopeative in Nicaragua. It explores why farmers continue to struggle with debt despite starting to win export contracts for coffee and explains this through a deep understanding of the development context, rising costs of production and labour and need for coffee prices to go up to support farmers overcome debt.
