Summary

The paper examines two private regulatory mechanisms - the Forest Stewardship Council and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil - in the context of providing procedural and distributional justice to indigenous people and smallholders in Indonesia's agriculture and forestry sectors. The paper draws on a literature review, review of NGO campaigns and interviews with key stakeholders to draw its conclusions.
