Summary

Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) is working towards developing a market-based standard that tackles water challenges effectively. Kenya was the first case study to explore how water stewardship standard based on existing standards could lead to better water management as well as to see what works, the gaps and what may be needed for further development of a robust standard. The Naivasha lake flower farms showed some best practices existing in terms of water use that had been implemented following drought in 2009. The pilot however also identified areas of improvement especially in regards to waste disposal among others.
