Summary
This white paper examines the status of child labour in the cocoa sector in Côte d’Ivoire, addressing its root causes, intervention strategies, and the challenges faced in combating it. Drawing on expert interviews and reliable reports, the paper maps out the prevalence of child labour in cocoa-growing regions, where approximately one in three children is engaged in such labour on family farms. Despite significant efforts and investments, the report suggests that progress in eliminating child labour in cocoa supply chains remains stagnant, with estimates showing insufficient improvement. Holistic approaches, such as landscape approaches, are identified as promising solutions, necessitating collaboration between private and public sectors to address interconnected root causes effectively.
