Summary

Cotton growing typically uses high levels of chemicals and pesticides. This study investigated the role of Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) management practices on controlling agrochemical use. The authors found that, as BCI cotton expanded in Pakistan, farmers have improved their water-use efficiency and have decreased pesticide and fertilizer use. In 2010, cotton growers produced 62,816 MT of BCI certified cotton.
