Summary

This paper examines the effect of Green Food Certification on the use of pesticides and fertilizers across agricultural commodities in China. By examining 4,830 households in six provinces between 2005 and 2013, the authors found no significant effects of Green Food Certification on chemical fertilizer or pesticide use. They suggest that stronger enforcement of certification standards may be needed to ensure that the goals of the Green Food program are realized.
