Summary

This paper examines the challenges of voluntary supply chain governance in the Indonesian tin sector, focusing analysis on the multi-stakeholder Tin Working Group. The authors find that whilst the Tin Working Group has worked to tackle issues such as worker safety and land rehabilitation, its unintended effects have generated 'hidden costs' and consolidated barriers to achieving more inclusive governance.
