This tracker highlights the human rights abuses in the mining of critical minerals for the renewable energy transition. The Tracker includes 510 allegations of abuse from 2010 to 2022, involving cobalt, copper, lithium, manganese, nickel, and zinc. Authors report 65 new cases of alleged abuse in 2022, showing violations of environmental, land, and Indigenous Peoples’ rights, along with increased corruption. The report calls for responsible practices, inclusive consultation, and commitment to human rights to achieve a just and sustainable energy transition.
