摘要

This paper examines the integration of South African fisheries into the global economy, and in particular the relationship between this integration and post-apartheid fishery reform. Using the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified hake fishery as a case study, the authors argue that there has been a long history of integration into the global economy, and that this has shaped fisheries, making them resilient to state reforms, yet dependent on the international competitiveness of South African currency as well as national fish stock health.
