This report outlines and compares various policy measures that Costa Rica, Gabon, Indonesia, Peru, and Rwanda have put in place to address deforestation. The analysis emphasizes the need for tailored measures addressing the specific causes and contexts of deforestation, targeting high-risk areas. It underscores the importance of recognizing the economic and environmental value of forests and establishing an enabling environment to support compliance with anti-deforestation policies. Engaging multiple stakeholders and leveraging public-private partnerships are highlighted as crucial strategies for achieving impactful results. The report suggests that VSSs can complement governmental measures in enhancing forest conservation efforts. It also advocates for a combination of physical and digital monitoring for effective implementation and emphasizes the importance of mobilizing resources from both public and private sectors to support deforestation reduction initiatives.
