This ethnographic study researchers the lives of women farmers and tea garden workers in the Darjeeling region of eastern India. It explores how new ethical production regimes such as Fairtrade interact with local socio-cultural settings and what impact this has on women's empowerment, agency and ultimately economic advancement.
