The book examines how transnational eco-certification can influence sustainable consumption and production in China. Focusing on the seafood, palm oil, and tea sectors, Sun explores the factors that drive companies to adopt eco-certification. The book argues that the success of eco-certification relies on gaining support from domestic actors in rapidly growing emerging economies. By analyzing case studies and employing mixed methods, Sun reveals how certification programs originating from the Global North were introduced and embraced in China, largely due to the involvement of state actors such as government-sponsored industry associations seeking developmental benefits through transnational governance.
