Assessing company and financier action on deforestation: taking stock and next steps

Briefing or opinion
Webinar

Published 22nd March 2022.

Summary

Towards the end of 2021, governments, companies and financial institutions all stepped up commitments on tackling deforestation through the Glasgow Leaders Declaration on Forest and Land Use. Although an encouraging step, company commitments must be transparently assessed and those making them held to account against real progress achieved in halting deforestation. This Evidensia learning event, in partnership with Global Canopy, takes stock of company and financier action on deforestation through the latest Forest 500 Annual Report. We will learn on key trends, who is making progress and who is not and what the emerging calls to action are for companies, their financiers and those supporting companies meet their zero-deforestation commitments. Our speakers will also bring in perspectives from policy, practice and finance spheres to define priorities for the years ahead. Speakers and discussants: Emma Thompson, Forest500 Lead, Global Canopy | Pascale Bonzom, Global Project Manager, Good Growth Partnership, UNDP | Vemund Olsen, Senior Sustainability Analyst, Storebrand | Juliana Lopes, AMAGGI.
